Campagnolo 106/106E

The 106 was originally released, cast in Campagnolo’s proprietary Elektron magnesium alloy (106E) in the mid-seventies, appearing in Japan in 1978. Early in Campagnolo’s history, the Elektron alloy was perceived to offer tremendous benefit over other alloys, and played a key role in all Campagnolo marketing materials. As time passed, however, and other advancements were made in aluminum casting, the benefits of the Elektron became dubious at best. The standard aluminum 106 was only available in one size (14 6J +13), but at 5.3 kg, it offered significant weight savings over even 13″ Elektron models. By 1982, the 106E (Elektron) was discontinued.
